England player ratings vs Argentina: Ojomoh making HQ his own

Max Ojomoh stole the show at Allianz Stadium, Twickenham, as the Bath inside centre put in a stellar performance to aid England’s problem position at No.12.

Ojomoh fails to be overwhelmed by the magnitude of HQ as five months after scoring in a victorious Prem final, the Bath inside centre delivered an inspired performance to guide England to an 11th consecutive win.

The 25-year-old, who was a late call-up for the injured Fraser Dingwall scored an early try, delivered a pin-point cross field kick to assist Immanuel Feyi-Waboso in scoring for the first of two assists, while also proving rock solid in defence on just his second cap.

England led 17-3 at half-time only for Argentina to narrow the gap to a single point thanks to a Justo Piccardo try and kicks from Tomas Albornorz and Santi Carreras.

However, in the final quarter, Slade crossed before George Ford added a penalty to stretch England's lead and secure a 100 per cent winning record this November.

Argentina threatened a late upset after Rodrigo Isgro set up a dramatic finish, only for England to hold on thanks to a late lineout steal from Charlie Ewels.

Here’s how All Things Rugby rated the England players:

England Starting XV

  1. Ellis Genge
6/10 - An intriguing battle at scrum time with Argentine tighthead Pedro Delgado, conceding two early penalties but eventually got on top. Surprisingly quiet in the loose.

  2. Luke Cowan-Dickie
8/10 - Showed why Sale Sharks had the best line out last season in the Prem with accurate darts and his robust defence was showcased by saving a try.

  3. Asher Opoku-Fordjour
6/10 - England fans weren’t able to see the tyro wrecking ball’s trademark bulldozer carries and will rue two missed tackles.

  4. Maro Itoje
7/10 - An impressive tally of 22 tackles but didn’t make his usual standout impacts and conceded two penalties.

  5. Alex Coles
75./10 - Ran a sumptuous line off Ford and put in the hard yards in England’s engine room.

  6. Guy Pepper
7.5/10 - Turning into a useful line out option for England. Dogged work around the park and was harshly denied a turnover late on.

  7. Sam Underhill
6/10 - Surprisingly missed two tackles as he failed to put in his trademark big hits.

  8. Ben Earl
7.5/10 - Topped the tackle count with 23 and ran the hard yards with 30 metres made. No.8 shirt is his.

  9. Ben Spencer
6/10 - His box kicking caused Argentina issues early on but England’s ruck speed slows down drastically compared to Mitchell.

  10. George Ford
7/10 - A mixed bag with his drop goals continuing to haunt Argentina but repeatedly kicked away possession, while missing a second drop goal and a routine shot at goal. Helped wrestle back momentum, though, with his obligatory flat to the line passing.

  11. Elliot Daly
4/10 - A troublesome return for the Saracens star who struggled under the high ball and failed to make any noteworthy impact with ball in hand.

  12. Max Ojomoh
9/10 - Everything he touched turned to gold in a breathtaking first half. Packed a punch with his granite carries but also thrived as a second playmaker.

  13. Henry Slade
7/10 - 14 different centre partners across his career and his telepathy with Ojomoh is right up there. Took try well but some poor kicking from hand.

  14. Immanuel Feyi-Waboso
7/10 - Raced away for a first half score and dealt well with Argentina’s aerial assault. Faded as the game went on.

  15. Freddie Steward
7.5/10 - Not perfect under the high ball but he openly admits his task has got that much harder with the new escort laws. Always gets over the gain line - an underrated part of his game.

England Replacements

  1. Theo Dan
6/10 - Solid darts and helped see out the win late on.

  2. Fin Baxter
6/10 - Carried hard and continues to grow in his role off the bench.

  3. Will Stuart
5/10 - Steadied scrum but was exposed defensively with three missed tackles.

  4. Charlie Ewels
7.5/10 - Came on to force a match-winning turnover with line out pressure on his own 5m line.

  5. Tom Curry
4.5/10 - Some poor handling once again from the bench and penalised for late shot which could have been more.

  6. Henry Pollock
7/10 - Full of beans; he continues to throw his body everywhere and punch above his weight in collisions. Needless jackal attempt late on saw him go off his feet and almost cost England the win.

  7. Alex Mitchell
8/10 - Some impressive hits and England’s ruck speed drastically increased to the levels we’ve been accustomed to see in recent weeks. Looking increasingly like one of Borthwick’s most important players.
